Published surveys put general Bangladesh developer rates at $15-35 an hour, with juniors below that and a handful of expert-tier engineers at $45-75. Those figures describe mid-level web work. AI and senior product engineering carry a premium of 12-30% or more everywhere, and a US or UK senior AI developer bills $150-250 an hour. I bill $100-150 an hour for hourly work, $500 and up a month for retainers with reserved hours, and fixed prices for defined projects: websites from $499, MVPs from $999, AI integrations from $799, AI agent products from $1,499, and a four-week fractional CTO engagement at $4,999.

Judge the rate by the seniority and by what is included. My fixed prices cover architecture, tests, CI/CD, deployment, documentation and a support window, so the number on the proposal is the number on the invoice.

Marketplaces are useful for finding people; they are expensive for working with them. Platform fees on both sides, escrow rules, messaging that has to stay on-platform, and ratings that push developers to say yes to everything all add friction. Bangladesh is UTC+6 with no daylight saving. That is five hours ahead of London in summer and six in winter, ten hours ahead of New York in summer and eleven in winter, and four hours behind Sydney. In practice I am online for the whole UK and EU afternoon, for US East Coast mornings until around noon and again in the evening, and I keep a fixed call window for each client so nobody is guessing.

Between calls the project runs asynchronously: a shared board, written updates every week, a demo at every milestone, and replies within one working day. English is the working language for everything I write and every call. Bangladesh's main holidays are the two Eids and a few national days; I flag them in the project plan at the start so deadlines account for them.

India has a much larger market and the big outsourcing firms. Bangladesh has a smaller, younger engineering community, rates that are typically 20-30% lower for equivalent seniority, less competition for a good freelancer's attention, and the same English-first working culture. For a single senior developer or a small team, the country matters far less than the individual: look at shipped products, talk to the person who will write the code, and start with a small paid engagement.
